Long-term care is the assistance or supervision given to a person who has a physical or mental disorder which causes the person to no longer function independently.  This can be due to injury, illness or the normal aging process.

Long-term care is different from traditional medical care. Long-term care helps one live as he or she is now; it may not help to improve or correct medical problems.
